We practice poses that require us to stay in challenging positions. And within that challenging position, we learn to breathe and relax around sensation. We practice restorative poses that help us calm our nervous system so we are less reactive and more peaceful. We practice breathwork that can help us relax or energize, depending on the technique. Sometimes it isn't easy, especially when all this practice stirs up old stories and issues that we need to face and heal.
Physical practice and breathwork prepare us for meditation. Meditation can sound daunting. I hear a lot of people say they can't meditate because their minds are racing. Or they are just not good at it. I say keep it simple and don't worry about being any good at it. Be bad at it. Get to know yourself and don't take that self too seriously.
This video is an introduction to meditation. To practicing that pause and doing the work to release ourselves from our thoughts. Maybe that's what freedom feels like.
